Since moving to our acreage in 2014, God has been shaping us into farmers! We’ve been loving each project as we explore gardening, raising egg layers, meat birds, and other new adventures every year!
Our goal is to produce maximum quality food while using God’s resources.
Shawn and Michelle have 5 children that are encouraged to take part on the farm. The kids love helping where they can or tagging along with Mom or Dad to tackle new projects around the yard.
We started with our conventional vegetable garden and in 2015 we decided to get a dozen dual-purpose chickens. We loved it so much that we started to plan on increasing our number for the next year. In February 2016 we decided to attend a course on Holistic Farm Management and it really expanded our view on farming and utilizing the land. We had a whole new set of tools that we came back with and our view towards farming has never been the same.
After much prayer and conversations with family we decided to increase our numbers and we ordered 150 Cornish Cross meat chickens, 20 Brown Layers and 10 Ameraucanas. We also started to seed our land to pasture and fence it off. While attending the course we learned about ‘No-Till Gardens‘ (although not part of the course). Our view towards gardening was changed and we started praying and planning our garden for 2016. Our spring, summer and fall were pretty much sketched out and Pure Pasture Farms started it’s baby steps towards a new year and many new adventures.
God continues to amaze us every day with new and exciting events and we are always looking forward to what His plans have for us next.
